The cervical spine begins at the base of the skull. Seven vertebra make up the cervical spine and provide the neck with a great range of motion in comparison to other areas of the spine.
Neck pain is a common condition that has many causes, some of these include;
- Change of direction forces, such as a tackle or car accident
- Poor sitting posture or sleeping position
Due to its complex nature, the neck requires a thorough assessment to accurately diagnose the source of pain. It is important to get your neck assessed promptly if you are having difficulty moving it or are having referred pain down the arm.
Treatments can include; massage, muscle releases, mobilizations of the joints and/or nerves, traction and range of exercises.
